Claude Monet loved his garden at Giverny so much that he called it his greatest masterpiece. In 1893 he dug a pond, filled it with water lilies and built a small arched bridge in the Japanese style, inspired by the Japanese prints that hung all over his house. In 1899 he painted the bridge again and again, catching the willows, reeds and floating lilies in soft greens with touches of pink and white. This version now hangs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
